MedCabinet is designed so your household's medicine information never leaves your device. This page explains exactly what that means, in plain terms.
What we collect
Nothing. No account, no analytics, no tracking, no server that stores or receives your data. Everything you enter stays in local storage on your own phone.
Not medical advice
MedCabinet shows information based on the label of the medicine you actually have at home — it does not recommend, diagnose, or advise on treatment. Always check with a pharmacist or doctor before taking anything, especially for children or anything beyond routine use.
What briefly leaves your device
MedCabinet makes direct requests from your phone to a small number of free, public lookup services, only when you actively use certain features:
- openFDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) — when you search for a medicine by name or scan a barcode, and when the app checks for recall notices.
- NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database — when you search for a supplement or vitamin by name.
- UPCitemdb — when you scan a product barcode, to look up its name.
These requests contain only the search text or barcode you're looking up — never your name, your household's data, or any identifier tied to you. These are independent public services, not operated by us.
Notifications
Reminders (expiring medicine, low stock, scheduled routines) are scheduled directly on your device using your phone's own notification system. No notification content passes through any external server.
Sharing between devices
MedCabinet's transfer feature copies your cabinet to another phone directly — via QR code or a shared file — moving data straight between the two devices you choose, never through us or any server we operate.
Children's privacy
MedCabinet does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Household member profiles — which may include a child's name or birth year for dosing-safety purposes — are stored only in the app's local storage on the parent's own device, exactly like any other data in the app.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version adds a feature that does transmit data — this page will be updated and the date above will change accordingly.
